General Information Concerning Pyruvic Acid

Pyruvic Acid, or Pyruvate (CH3COCOOH) is one of the most essential molecules to human life. It is at the center of one of the two most important chemical reactions in the universe, Cellular Respiration! As you may recall, from earlier years of biology studies, that respiration has two forms, aerobic and anaerobic, pyruvate is involved in both. During glycolysis, the first step of respiration glucose is converted into pyruvate, then if oxygen is present it is further converted in acetyl-CoA, and the cycle continues. If oxygen is not present then the process begins to end producing much less energy as it becomes lactic acid.

    I like how you changed the way the profile worked, with a transparent post as to see the background better. However, I find it just a little distracting, even though the words are very easy to see, I can’t help but not concentrate on the information but the picture in the background. Although you did not use many pictures the overall appearance is pretty simple yet busy at the same time. The simplicity in the color and design of the words is really works well together.
    The structure of the molecule looks correct as there is not really a central atom, however it does have a triangular pyramid structure on one end and more of a triangular planar in other areas. The angles look correct in the 3-D structure shown on the top and middle of your page. The polarity of the molecule is also correct as the distribution of electrons is not equal throughout the molecule. You also have the correct forces of attraction between the Pyruvate molecules. I like your drawing of the dash model; it shows the different forces of attraction properly.
    I have to say that your ad is super convincing because without your molecule none of us would be here. I do not want to die so I would definitely go out and buy some Pyruvate to prevent that. Nice job!

  2. David, I enjoyed viewing your molecule's profile. I highly enjoyed the layout of the page: The transparent background gave a nice feeling to the page and, like Jenny said, made it easier to read. I also enjoyed the chemistry-related background image. It kept the theme relative to what we have been learning.
